David Gillham, Vice President for Education

David's many responsibilities for the overall administration of the Central California Conference's 24 schools, include:

  • Reviewing all school budgets
  • Handling contracts for the Conference's 130-plus teachers
  • Managing curriculum
  • And ensuring that all schools maintain accreditation with the church and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Beyond the technical aspects of running the Conference's educational program, David's main responsibility is working with people.

Ken Bullington, Associate Superintendent

Ken Bullington

As Associate Superintendent, Ken's many responsibilities include:

  • Chairing the Secondary Curriculum Committee
  • Authorizing all secondary curriculum
  • Working with teachers to upgrade and improve curricula
  • Helping to incorporate Adventist values into all parts of the curriculum as a member of the Union Curriculum Committee
  • Assisting schools in maintaining accreditation through the Adventist Accreditation Association and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges
  • And also assisting assigned Union schools in getting and maintaining accreditation

Ken's office also provides many programs for students and teachers.

  • Student-oriented programs include the Friendship Games sports program, Choral and Band Festivals, and much more.
  • He supports teachers through the Mentor Teacher program, in which veteran teachers provide one-on-one mentoring to new teachers, as well as teacher conventions, etc.
  • A benchmark service learning program has been developed in recent years through collaboration among the conference's secondary schools and Ken's office.

He also sits on school boards, recruits teachers, and does many other things to help make Adventist secondary education first-rate.

Ileana Espinosa, Associate Superintendent

Ileana Espinosa

Ileana provides guidance and support for the Central California Conference's 11 elementary schools.

As Associate Superintendent, some of Ileana's many responsibilites include:

  • Choosing curriculum for the elementary schools
  • Attending board meetings
  • Hiring and working with all elementary school personnel
  • And caring for many other details to ensure that each school provides excellent education to its students.

She also plans services and programs, such as the Bible Challenge and the Spelling Bee that add to the educational environment of students and teachers. On weekends, she travels to churches across the conference promoting Adventist education.

Norma Maynez, Administrative Assistant for the Vice-President of Education

Norma Maynez

Norma is a passionate supporter of Adventist education and is convinced that God placed her in the education department. "God totally opened the doors for me to work here," she says. "It is a privilege to work with our principals and teachers, and do my part to help Adventist education be the best it can be."

As the assistant to Vern Biloff, Norma coordinates, prepares materials, and keeps minutes for principals' council and K-12 meetings. She handles all teacher contracts, updates and distributes the conference school directory, and maintains communication with the Union education department. She is also the office manager for the department.

Delfina Wisener, Secretary

Delfina Wisener

Delfina tends to all the various needs of the department, including coordinating events such as sport-meets and spelling bees. She also works with teachers' employment and certification needs, and assists Ken with the various aspects of the secondary curriculum.

Karen Anders, Office Assistant

Karen Anders

As office assistant, Karen's duties are primarily secretarial. She helps with the set-up and take-down of meetings, does the background work for some of the department's many events, answers phone calls, and assists with other projects as needed.
